They Have No Shame.

All over the news today Republicans are proclaiming the urgency of not allowing a fix to the current spending plan that expires on Friday. Their constituents “have suffered enough” through Obama economics, they whine dramatically, as if no one can really understand the sacrifices they have made under President Obama’s original stimulus.

SC Republican Senate-designate Tim Scott is front and center bemoaning the unsustainable earmarks from the stimulus. He speaks woefully of how Obama’s plan failed the American people. I imagine this is particularly relevant because Tim Scott is African-American.

Proof again a Republican of any color still is challenged when it comes to The. Truth. Thing Progress points out that while Mr. Scott was a congressman decrying how the 2009 stimulus failed Americans, he wrote a May 2012 letter to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood requesting nearly $22 million in stimulus funding for renovation of railroad tracks in North and South Carolina:

“…The funding provided through this grant will be used to rehabilitate 89 miles of railroad tracks used by CSR that are in dire need of repair and/or replacement. Currently, these tracks are shut down because they do not meet the new Federal Railroad Authority bridge requirement.”

H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E.

Then there’s the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimating that the stimulus created from 500,000 to 3.3 million jobs. And, yes, it lowered the national unemployment rate.

Regardless of F-A-C-T-S, the GOP is licking its chops at the thought of its latest financial betrayal, aka the Sequester, coming to fruition. It will ensure the highest earners do not sacrifice a single cent with tax increases or tax loop reductions while budget cuts fall onto the backs of the other 99% of Americans. Us.

Make no mistake, the Republican discussion on both the stimulus and the current sequester are fiction repeated often enough to make some believe their “sacrifices” and “solutions” are examples of good citizenship. They are L-Y-I-N-G.

The truth is they are selfish. They are dishonest. They are bullies. And I hope they are soon unemployed when elections come up in their districts.

This cannot be spelled out any clearer. When will our country demand the standard of truth and sacrifice that once made the United States the greatest country in the world?
