Why We’re Screwed!

You’ve got to think that when the Army unanimously agrees that it doesn’t need something, it really doesn’t need it! However, our elected officials, who are clearly bought and paid for by lobbying firms representing a wide variety of interests, insist that the Army needs almost a half billion dollars in M1A2 tanks. This is despite the Army’s insistence that it doesn’t need them. This is despite the Army’s request to NOT refurbish the tanks and instead use the money on next generation tanks.
And yet our “elected” officials continue to insist the Army doesn’t know what it is talking about. Sadly, because this results in cash flowing into a large number of congressional districts (there are 560 subcontractors), these bought and paid for officials will likely continue to get re-elected. They will tell their constituents that they kept jobs in their district.
Many of these same people will tell us that we must cut spending and make tough decisions. The “tough decisions” being to continue to neglect the young, the poor, and the elderly while continuing to spend money on a weapons system the military insists it doesn’t need.
So congress insists the military spend money on something it doesn’t need, doesn’t get additional money to spend on what it DOES need, and the poor and elderly continue to get screwed.
The system is broken!
