I don’t really like Pat Quinn. Oh, he seems like a nice enough guy. And I think he’s fairly honest. For a politician. But like many of my fellow Illinois residents, I don’t think he’s done a great job running the State. In fact, I think he’s done a less than average job. Perhaps a C- or a D+. In fairness, he inherited a mess. And I think that the real power in this state is with Madigan (which is a whole different issue!).
But I just could not vote for Bruce Rauner. Why? Well the attached article makes many good points. And I largely agree with them. But it goes deeper. Rauner has done very, very well for himself. I’m happy for him. Republicans love to ask Democrats why we hate the rich and why we feel it is necessary to punish them. I don’t hate the rich. But I also don’t worship them. Getting rich is a big accomplishment. But that doesn’t show leadership. That shows an ability to make money. Rauner appears to let greed rule his playbook and I’m very sure that is NOT the best way to run government. The stories of Rauner’s methods of getting rich are depressing. They say something about human greed. They tell us that all is not only fair in love and war, but apparently also in getting rich. I don’t hate the rich. I do hate the greedy.
So I voted by mail yesterday and I voted for Pat Quinn. I wasn’t a great choice. But to me, it was a very clear choice.
