Here is a great article on the issue of whether having a gun in the house really makes people safer. The evidence is pretty clear that the risks far outway the rewards, so to speak. But that hasn’t stopped the NRA from adopting the now common right wing strategy of just forcefully repeating lies until people believe them. It actually seems to work.

After all, I’ve talked to people all over the world that want to know about the new “government run healthcare” in America. The right has some how successfully created an impression that the GOP is the party of fiscal responsibility despite the overwhelmingly clear evidence that this is a falsehood. All you have to do is look at a graph of either the national debt or federal budget deficits and you will see it. Global Climate Change?The scientists offer virtually no debate on the subject. But the right continues to tell us it is a myth. Science says Global Climate Change is real, it is man-made, and it is going to have very real negative impact on mankind.

But apparently to most Americans, facts don’t seem to matter.

So the NRA continues to win the spin battle. It is very hard to win an argument when the opposition lies about the facts and makes up their own “facts.” It is hard to win an argument with an organization that is so shameful it literally doesn’t care about tens of thousands of deaths in the US every year and will do absolutely nothing to stop it.

We can only hope that eventually, just like with the lies told to us by tobacco companies, Americans will wake up and realize the truth.
