What Is Veterans Day?

November 11, 2014 by Chris Kite

While in the US we honor veterans on this day, the origin of the “holiday” is to mark the end of WWI on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Many nations celebrate Armistice Day on November 11th.

About 16 Million people died in WWI. It was the “war to end all wars.” If only that were true! Of course just 21 years later, WWII broke out, killing 60 Million people. And there have been countless other wars, including what now appears to be a permanent “war on terror.”

Thank you to all those that have risked their lives, been wounded, or given their lives to serve their country.

Personally, I am hoping that we reach a stage of “civilization” where it is no longer necessary for men and women to give their lives in battle.
