If the gun industry in the US is good at anything, it is marketing. They have masterfully played up on the fears of those inclined to think they need guns. Working with it’s close ally, the NRA, the gun industry has convinced a bunch of fearful people that they better buy guns now. Pure genius.

Meanwhile, more weapons flood the market and get sold through back channels. What the NRA and it’s gun nut supporters never mention is that ALL guns in the US start out as legal. Yet when it comes to crime guns, somewhere along the way they become illegal. It might be straw purchases. It might be gun show loopholes allowing criminals to “cash and carry.” Or it might just be some lunatic walking into a gun shop and buying a gun so he can kill a whole bunch of people.

But whatever they are telling the gun nuts, it bears no resemblance to the truth. Fear sells. Especially to fearful people that think that somehow owning a gun is going to make the safer. Statics (science) says otherwise. But that won’t stop them. They’re going to spend tons of money and make the weapons manufacturers even wealthier.

Just what America needs. More guns!
