There has been quite a bit of talk about NBC News Anchor Brian Williams and his “outrageous” lies about being in a helicopter that took fire. Those on the right are particularly angry. After all, it is more proof to them that the “liberal media” lies all the time. Never mind the severely questionable record of their own right wing propaganda machine, Fox “News.”
I suspect that what Brian Williams did is not all that uncommon. Someone telling a story and while they are telling it, they find themselves twisting the facts to make it more interesting or captivating. Of course as a national news anchor, you should be held to a very high standard. I think it is important though, that Mr Williams did this while entertaining, NOT while broadcasting the news.
But to regard Mr Williams as a liar is certainly not unreasonable. However, if you’re of the political persuasion that regards Ronald Reagan as a great man, you are being a hypocrite. You see, Ronald Reagan, the hero of the right, the man the right credits with saving the United States, was caught fabricating war stories more than once. So if you want to call Brian Williams a liar, that is fine. But to do so and not be a hypocrite, you must also call Ronald Reagan a liar.
