Illinois Versus Wisconsin In The Race To The Bottom

February 20, 2015 by Chris Kite

With Bruce Rauner now in place as governor of Illinois, he has decided to challenge Scott Walker to a race. A race to the bottom in higher education that is.

His proposed budget has slashed state university funding by more than 30%. I get why Republicans do this. They are against education. They hate “elitists” that have gone to major universities. But most of all, an educated electorate doesn’t fit in with their strategy.

How are they supposed to keep sticking it to the middle class and poor if people are smart, well educated, and understand the actual history of the republican darlings of deregulation and trickle down economics?

So Bruce Rauner becomes governor and his first actions are to attack unions and then gut spending on higher education, mass transit, and health care for the poor.

Don’t worry about people getting an education, getting to work, or getting health care. That isn’t a problem at all. But if the rich had to pay higher taxes? THAT would be a tragedy, now wouldn’t it!
