It Must Be Hard To Be White In Texas!

While the racist video created by the Oklahoma University frat was quite depressing and disturbing, OU’s swift action was a very positive step in the right direction. It won’t completely eliminate racism. But it goes a long way toward making it crystal clear that racist thoughts, words, and actions are not acceptable. Ever.
But now we’ve got this clown in Texas that seems to be telling us all how rough it is to be white. I guess when you live in a state that doesn’t teach real history, and where you’re governed by far right lunatics that think discrimination is a “states’ right,” your perspective is probably more than a little skewed.
Here’s the thing. Those of us that are white males have had an advantage in just about everything we do for the entire life of this country. Even after civil rights legislation passed, discrimination against blacks and other minorities has still been very real and very hard to prevent as the racists have generally learned to keep their mouths shut and pretend there are other reasons not to treat people as equals. So the fact that in some situations the playing field is being leveled doesn’t suddenly give us some unfair hardship. It just puts things a little closer to the way it should have been all along.

I’ve often wondered what it must be like to be a white man in the United States. Has to be great.
