Two Guys With Guns, Road Rage, and Shooting. How Could We Have Possibly Known?

We’ve all read it and heard it. Having guns makes you safer. There aren’t really any statistics that back this up, but hey, you like guns so you’re going to rationalize. The NRA likes their corporate masters to have more gun profits, so they resist any effort to actually study this issue. But they still tell us that we will be safer with guns. They use cute little phrases like the “only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”
Those of us on the other side of the argument say more guns in the hands of more people are going to result in more gun violence. More accidental shootings. More domestic violence. More suicides. Heated arguments going right past the physical altercation to a gunfight.
So is anyone really surprised that George Zimmerman was driving around with a gun in his car, encountered another person with a gun in their car, and then at least one shot was fired? Fortunately it looks like there were no serious injuries. But that’s just dumb luck. Dumb luck for two dumb guys driving around with guns in their cars “because they can.”
