Just a few weeks ago, Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, and lots of other Republicans were worried about a Federal takeover of Texas. The US Military was getting ready, they told us. Walmarts would be FEMA processing centers and Uncle Sam was coming to take away their freedoms.

And in recent years these same Republicans told us we couldn’t afford more spending. We couldn’t afford relief efforts for the victims of hurricanes, floods, tornados, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. We often heard about how real Americans don’t depend upon government to help them out. Good Americans help themselves.

Now that Texas is seeing flooding like never before, these positions are no longer quite so apparent.

Help us! Help us!

Of course the Federal government will help them. Because the Federal government is very good at this type of thing. And thanks to “liberal elitists,” there is a budget for these types of things.
