It has been a really bad week for conservatives. Really bad!
First “Obamacare” was upheld sending Republicans off the deep end in vows to repeal and replace it. Even though they’ve never had any kind of plan to actually “replace” it.
Now the Supreme Court of United States has ruled that (gay) marriage must be accepted in every state. Several of GOP officials have taken a moderate stance (probably with some relief) that it is now the law of the land and must be followed.
But of course, there are always the extremists. The members of the Republican party that are in a mad race to see how far right they can get before they fall off the face of relevancy. Bobby Jindal (Gov of Louisiana), and Mike Huckabee (leader of the Christian Taliban), and Greg Abbott (Governor of Texas) have declared their displeasure.
And as you would expect in the south, at least one right winger is declaring that there is no need to follow it because it is not the will of the people. This is quite true. It is not the will of the people. Like ending slavery was not the will of the people. Like ending segregation was not the will of the people. Like giving blacks the right to vote was not the will of the people.
But the will of the people doesn’t make something right and it doesn’t make it Constitutional.
