Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz wasn’t happy about the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare and Gay Marriage. Perhaps that’s a bit of an understatement! Mr. Cruz would like to see Supreme Court judges subjected to retention elections.
It would appear that a guy that claims to be a strict constitutionalist fails to understand that the founding fathers specifically gave Supreme Court judges a lifetime appointment so that they could make decisions beyond politics. Justice Anthony Kennedy was the “swing” vote in the gay marriage case and both Kennedy and Chief Justice John Roberts voted to uphold Obamacare subsidies for citizens purchasing insurance through a federal government run exchange.
Both justices were appointed by conservative Presidents and both were certainly expected to side with conservatives on SCOTUS cases. Generally, that is the case. But sometimes they differ and they are free to do that as the US Constitution has declared. As long as they are arguing that a law is Constitutional.
Ted Cruz is like a spoiled child that wants to change the rules of a game when he loses. It is not becoming nor is it appropriate conduct for a person running for President. Imagine what he will try to do should he someone manage to fool the American people and win the 2016 Presidential election!
