When ExxonMobil is more environmentally responsible than virtually all Republicans, it is a very sad statement!

Back in May, ExxonMobil released this powerful Climate Change statement. What everyone may not be aware of is that ExxonMobil first acknowledged climate change and the role played by CO2 way back in 1981. Of course, as a company that was making huge profits from oil, it hid this information for many years. But it has now come to the conclusion that continuing to damage the planet and make the ability of humans to thrive on Earth may not be the right course.

Why is it that a global oil company recognizes that Global Climate change is real, that it is driven by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, and that global action is needed, while Republicans continue to pretend it doesn’t exist?

Republicans have lots of excuses. Many are based on cherry picked data to show that the planet isn’t warming. Or “proof” of falsified data, even though it has been shown that the data is accurate. Or because it snowed in Washington, DC. Or because climate scientists are lying just to keep their jobs telling us that climate change is going to be a big problem in the near future.

Would ExxonMobil really be telling the world these things if they didn’t find the current data very convincing? Are ExxonMobil’s scientists talking about climate change to keep their jobs?

It is well past time Republicans should embrace science in general, and specifically Climate Science.
