Freedom to be Christian

According to our constitution, no religion is to be favored over another in the United States. According to Americans, that applies mostly to Christianity.
The bad news is that 82% of Americans favored religious rights for Christians, 70% favored religious rights for Jews, 67% favored religious rights for Mormons, and 61% favored religious rights for Muslims.
I guess we should see the positive in this. That is that the majority of Americans believe Muslim’s should have freedom to worship as they see fit. But that leaves an awfully high number of Americans that are hypocritical bigots.
And as you might expect, the level of bigotry is higher among those that identify as Republicans. But those that identified as Democrats were only slightly better.
How is it that so many Americans interpret freedom of religion to only mean freedom to be Christian?
