On Monday, January 11, Iran removed the core from its nuclear reactor at Arak and filled it with cement. This deactivates the reactor. Once verified by the International Atomic Energy Agency, a task expected to take just days, this will fulfill Iran’s requirements to remove its nuclear weapons capability.
Iran is still far from an ideal nation, and while it certainly still posses a threat to its neighbors, it is far less dangerous without nuclear weapons capability. The Middle East is a safer place. The world is a safer place.
The international agreement to remove Iran’s nuclear weapons capability is proving to be a success. Despite predictions by Republicans and Israel’s Netanyahu that it would fail.
