It would appear that the attempt to end the Malheur Wildlife Refuge standoff by arresting the leaders just got more complicated. Make no mistake. The Bundy’s and the other “leaders” are pretty nuts. But apparently the new leader is much more committed to the “I’m a crazy white gun toting lunatic that thinks I’m oppressed and has a bizarre understanding of the Constitution” movement.
It is interesting that over the past decade or so the Republican Party and the propaganda arm it has courted (Fox “News,” The Blaze, Breitbart, etc) have created this problem. They’ve spun made up stories of fascism, tyranny, and out of control government and built an entire army of followers. That’s the problem with building support through fear. Eventually they become so scared they no longer act as you had hoped.
The radical militants were allegedly told now was the time to leave peacefully. Rather than leave, it appears they’ve dug in and taken a stronger stand.
Personally, I don’t want to see police, FBI, and possibly military members put at risk. I think it is best to just cut them off from the outside world and let them shiver and starve for a while. They’ll give up eventually!
