Could There be Sanity Creeping into the Republican Primary?

In very conflicting news from New Hampshire, racist, xenophobic blowhard Donald Trump won the Republican primary. That is very bad news if you love or even don’t hate your country.
But there was moderately good news coming out of the New Hampshire primary. Ohio Governor John Kasich is currently in second place and is projected to hold that place.
Make no mistake. Kasich is a very conservative governor. And he will mean bad things for many Americans if he becomes President. But I at least have the feeling that he is qualified, knows how to lead, and has a reasonably good understanding of what must be done to run the country. He certainly is a far superior choice to Trump, Rubio, Cruz, Fiorina, or Carson. And he seems to have more intellect than Bush and more honesty than Christie. He has consistently demonstrated that he understands the complexity of government and international relations. He hasn’t offered the overly simplistic, sound byte type proposals the other candidates have.
So maybe we’re seeing a trend. Maybe there is some sanity and reason coming to the Republican primary.
I suspect that Rubio, Bush, Christie, and Kasich are all trying to outlast each other because once the Trump and Cruz facades crack, the race will be wide open again. Trump has been the front runner for a long time. But he has such high negative ratings it seems very unlikely he can get a majority of the Republicans behind him. Unlikely, but not impossible in this bizarre election cycle. Cruz is equally unlikable and turns off a large number of voters, too. He has the negatives of Trump without the charisma.
