There have been allegations this week that Michigan Governor Rick Snyder postponed notifying Flint citizens of the fact that their water had high lead levels.
Snyder’s office has denied the allegations, but here is the thing. It should at least deserve an investigation. When allegations surfaced the Hillary Clinton spun the true nature of the attacks on our embassy in Libya, allegations that have been investigated over and over and over despite never turning up any evidence of wrongdoing, Republicans were very quick to call for resignations and investigations. They have continued to investigate and accuse Clinton of wrongdoing despite a complete lack of evidence. Several have even admitted the political nature of the investigation.
Politics is ugly. Especially when Republicans are involved. But why wouldn’t they do the same when a state Governor is alleged to have knowingly withheld information that they were being poisoned by their water?
Of course we don’t know if this is true. And I’m not suggesting that he is guilty unless an investigation finds him guilty. But doesn’t this at least deserve a thorough investigation? Aren’t the innocent citizens of Flint as worthy of protection as our embassy personnel? Aren’t the innocent citizens of Flint equally as worthy of the truth as anyone?
