America Is Not Alone In Its Islamophobia

Anti-Muslim rallies were held in cities throughout Europe and in Australia. While many of us are horrifyingly embarrassed by the right wing xenophobic rhetoric of our Republican party in America, I guess we can take some comfort in knowing we’re not alone.
But there is a big difference between the rest of the world and the U.S. In our country, the vast majority of a major political party is often a source of xenophobic and anti-Muslim rhetoric. In other countries, it is mostly just a small group of radical racists that aren’t supported by a significant part of the country.
There is no doubt that refugees are going to place some kind of burden on any country that takes them. But we must continue to stand up to do the right thing.
Had more countries stepped up in the 1930s and early 1940s, the holocaust would not have claimed nearly as many lives. These refugees are innocent civilians that are fleeing for their lives. We should all do the right thing and do our part to help. This includes taking refugees into our countries. And this includes suffering a minor burden. Because I would gladly suffer a minor burden if it saves the life of an innocent man, woman, or child.
