Why I’m Voting For Bernie

I’ve made up my mind that I’m voting for Bernie Sanders. I feel that he best represents my liberal values and I feel that he best represents those that aren’t in a position of power.
That is not to say that I don’t support Hillary Clinton. I think she would make a good President and I think that she will fight for the middle class. But I think Bernie will fight harder and look to implement more liberal policies. Should Hillary Clinton become the Democratic Party nominee, which is what I expect, I will not hesitate to support her and cast my vote for her. I don’t believe the right wing propaganda about all of her so called scandals. They are made up nonsense that is nothing but a smear campaign to try to de-legitimatize her candidacy.
At the end of the day, I hold out little hope that much will get done under either candidate. The Republicans have shown a strong ability to prevent the middle class and poor from getting a fair chance. They’ve shown that money talks and that when a sponsor buys a candidate, they better do everything they can to represent that sponsor. They are willing to destroy the economy and country in the name of right wing obstructionism.
I also don’t expect Bernie Sanders to become the Democratic Party nominee.
So why am I voting for him? Because he best represents my values. Because I want to send a clear message that corporate America has too much power and too much influence. I like that he isn’t sponsored by any corporate owners. I like that he is pushing the party left and several decades of the party moving further and further right. I’m not under the illusion that far left policies will sell to enough Americans. But I do believe that we need to claw back some of the rightward movement that America has seen from Reagan onward.
I would love for Bernie Sanders to win. I would love for his policies to be implemented. But history has taught us that elections are won and lost by the centrist and moderate voter. I’m not one of those. I’m tired of my values being discounted. So I’m voting for Bernie Sanders.
