Very, Very Frightening

Donald Trump is very, very frightening. He is the scariest Presidential candidate since George Wallace. He espouses hatred of those that don’t agree or are somehow different. He encourages violence. He wants to curtail First Amendment freedoms both for religion and for the press.
It is very hard to believe that in 2016, this is the candidate that is leading the primary race for a major party. It is hard to believe that hatred, violence, fear, and fundamentally changing the Constitution is being widely accepted.
For decades the Republican party has been selling fear. Generally, they are selling fear of things that aren’t even a threat. Muslims. Welfare queens. Thugs. Illegal immigrants. Christian persecution. Gay indoctrination. The government taking away your guns.
Basically, if you don’t look, sound, or worship like them, you should be feared. That has been their message. And it has brought out a large group of racists that honestly believe being white in America is under threat. As a white, male American, I can tell you that I know I still get favorable treatment over those not like me. I see this favoritism as the real threat. Not some notion that I might have to compete on a level playing field. That women might make as much money as me. That someone with darker skin or a different accent might get equal consideration for a job or a promotion.
Donald Trump is very, very frightening. I hope that we can stop him as this is not the way America is supposed to be!
