It is only one month, but February was a shocking month. The average global surface temperature was 1.35 degrees C higher than the average from 1951 to 1980.

No doubt, climate change deniers will continue to insist that the models that use only satellite data, and only for a period that begins in 1998 prove there is no warming. But surface temperature measurements are more accurate and rely less on complicated algorithms to determine temperature than satellite measurements.

The climate deniers generally focus on the period beginning with 1998 as their proof that temperatures have not gone up. This is because 1998 was a major El Niño year and because of that, temperatures were higher. But based on this latest data, the anti-science crowd is going to need to cherry pick some new data.

This is very bad news for the human impact on global climate.
