Donald Trump has very loyal supporters. He once quipped that he could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue and his support wouldn’t fall. I don’t doubt that.
He was able to get away with insulting an entire ethnic group and an entire religion.
He put down a celebrated American war hero when he disparaged John McCain. He has made constant sexist remarks.
He has encouraged violence at his rallies but telling people to rough up protestors and offering to pay the bills for their legal fees.
And now we have Trump supporters threatening GOP officials with death if their candidate doesn’t get the nomination. There have been threats against official’s families.
That really isn’t surprising. After all, the GOP has spent decades lying and spreading hysteria. They’ve talked about the demise of America, Democrats coming to take their guns, oppression of Christianity, Obama orchestrating a government takeover of healthcare, allowing ISIS through our borders, and intentionally destroying the country. This has had a powerful influence on conservatives and bigots across America.
Trump, the violence and open racism, and the threat of violence against GOP officials and their families seems very predictable given the tales they’ve been spinning for years.
