Isn’t it funny how right wing gun nuts think? Not funny, funny. But, you know, funny.

Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) was upset about the Democrats staging a sit in because Republicans refuse to take any gun control measures seriously. He went so far as to say they should have been arrested.

And of course GOP Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) called it a publicity stunt that threatens American Democracy. Unlike, for example, being owned by the NRA like most Republicans.

It is NOT a publicity stunt. This is a real issue and Republicans refuse to consider that they may be wrong. They refuse to consider that putting gun sales ahead of letting a potential terrorist buy those guns might help save American lives.

Of course all the same old gun arguments come up every time. “You can’t stop them all.” “Only criminals will have guns,” as if somehow not letting people on a terrorist watch list buy guns is going to suddenly result in all Americans lose their precious death toys. “If they don’t use a gun, they’ll use something else.”

I would be happy to see us start with eliminating just a few gun deaths. That’s a great start. And I’ll take my chances against a knife, or spoon, or baseball bat over a gun any day.

As far as the whole publicity stunt thing? Republicans should know much better what a publicity stunt is. Aren’t they the one’s that have voted over 50 times to repeal Obamacare?
