Federal Government Ends Private Prison Contracts

August 29, 2016 by Chris Kite

There was good news in the Justice Department pulling out of private prisons. It isn’t going to happen immediately, but they won’t be renewing contracts or creating new ones.

Private prisons were a horrible idea with predictable results such as more people being sentenced, horrible corruption with judges essentially selling prisoners, less rehabilitation, less safety, and, of course, less control.

But this problem isn’t going away quite yet. Because many states still have private prison contracts and have no intention of ending the practice.
