While Donald Trump tries to convince people that they are worse off than they really are, there is good economic news. Some 3.5 million Americans rose up above the poverty level last year.

That’s big news! It shows that Obama’s economic policies have moved past just restoring the economy to where it was before the great recession. This is what happens when you take measures to get people back to work, encourage higher pay, and provide economic stimulus to restart the economy. As everyone knew that it would, it took some time. But as a country we’ve stuck with it and now people are seeing real wage gains and living better lives because of it.

For a lesson in trickle down economics, take a look at the map of the country and which states have the highest levels of people in poverty. Notice anything they have in common?

That’s right. The states with the highest levels of poverty are almost exclusively Republican controlled states. There’s trickle down economics for you. It really does just give money to the wealthy and fail to help the poor.
