The Trump administration and right wing conspiracy theory lunatics are at it again. They are lying about the “millions of illegal votes that were cast in the November election.”
It never happened. Voter fraud is very, very rare. You would think, if this were really happening, the right might be able to point to at least a handful of cases where it has taken place. But they make accusations with zero proof. There isn’t any evidence to show voter fraud is even a minor problem. They lie about it to try to rationalize voter suppression and create fear, uncertainty, and doubt.
The link below is a fake news story a friend of mine posted right before the election. I couldn’t believe it didn’t get any mainstream press, so I did a few minutes of fact checking.
First, I checked their “source” at Fox 10 Phoenix. A search of their website showed no such story.
Then I did a google search. That turned up several stories, all exactly the same as this one. All fake!
Then I got to thinking about the situation. They got caught voting before the election. At a school. I realized early voting isn’t usually held at schools. So I searched Arizona polling places for that school. It is not an early voting site.
So I pose the question, if there are significant numbers of illegal votes taking place, why can’t the right show us some real stories? Why do they have to make up stories and create fake news (also sometimes referred to as alternative facts by the Trump administration)?
The second article I’ve linked is a Washington Post article about the amazingly few cases of voter fraud in 2016. It just doesn’t happen at any scale that is even slightly meaningful!
