Outdoor Retailers Voting With Their Dollars

As an industry with a heavy dependence on outdoor activity in National Parks, National Monuments, and other Federal land, the nation’s outdoor gear retailers are speaking up about the Republican party’s efforts to sell off federal public lands for development. They’ve made the decision, that given Utah congressional representatives’ moves to end a federal land policy that has been successfully used for over a century, they will take their $45M outdoor show someplace other than Utah. Far right Utah representatives (and other GOP pro-industry anti-environment congressional representives and senators) have worked tirelessly representing oil, mining, timber, and development interests. They have been looking to roll back as many pro-environment rules as they can.
This does not sit well with many outdoor retailers or their much of their customer base. So they’re looking for a new location for the show. Fighting preservation of public lands, environmental protections, and actions to stop global climate change is frowned upon by people that treasure time spent outdoors in the wilderness!
