Trump Lie Of The Day

At his speech on the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, Republican President Donald Trump said, “Our Navy is now the smallest it’s been since, believe or not, World War I. Don’t worry. It’s going to soon be the largest it’s been.”
More lies from the Liar In Chief.
The fleet is in fact smaller than it was the decade after WWI. But the composition has changed dramatically because naval warfare has changed dramatically. As all the powers learned in WWII, aircraft carriers and submarines are the primary weapons used in naval battles. We now have 10 super carriers each with 75+ supersonic jet aircraft capable of engaging multiple targets and reaching hundreds of miles. We have dozens of submarines that can track multiple targets, launch multiple nuclear missiles, and stay under water almost indefinitely.
I think if you asked anyone in the Navy, they would gladly take just one of today’s aircraft carriers or submarines over hundreds of the types of ships the Navy had in WWI or even WWII!
As far as growing to “the largest it’s been,” that is a total lie. During WWII our fleet consisted of 6,768 fighting ships. It grew from 271 last year to 274 this year. I don’t think we are going to be building another 6,500 ships.
Donald Trump Republicans love to make the Military sound like it is under funded. We spend more on our military than the top 10 other countries combined!
