Two governmental departments that Republican President Donald Trump has targeted for elimination provide services right in the heart of areas that supported him.
Appalachian Regional Commission
This government organization focuses on promoting economic growth in an area that has long been impoverished. As if it isn’t bad enough that they bought into his lie that he was going to bring back coal mining jobs to them, now he is taking away an organization that provides much needed help.
Delta Regional Authority
Much like the previous organization, this governmental group focuses on economic development in the eight states of the Mississippi Delta region: Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Kentucky, Missouri, and Illinois.
Both of these organizations provide valuable services to rural parts of the country that are perpetually impoverished and need all the help they can get. Instead, he symbolically flips off his supporters by taking away one of the few areas of hope that they have.
Combine this with the loss of legal assistance, the gutting of the EPA and the high likelihood that these areas will see rampant pollution by corporations that are there, the dramatic decreases in Medicaid, and the cuts in senior programs and you get a picture of a group of people that were in rough shape before and will be in much worse shape going forward if his budget passes.
