America First Doesn’t Mean What You Thought It Did

When Republican President Donald Trump talks about “America First,” I suspect that most of his supporters probably thought it meant we would be focusing on improving the United States of America. They would be wrong. His budget is a horrific picture of just what his vision is for our country. Under his proposed budget, there are many, many losers and very few winners.
He has proposed deep cuts to Meals on Wheels, funding for victims of domestic violence, and Head Start. His EPA budget decimates the watchdog group and would mean huge increases in costs of environmental related diseases like asthma, cancer, developmental disorders, and more. His cuts to the State Department would mean a less stable and less secure world where diplomacy is used far less and war is used far more. It would mean drastic reductions in housing assistance.
In short, the Trump budget aims to help the military industrial complex, big business, and the wealthy while hurting virtually everything else. It does not paint a pretty picture of America’s future and it does anything but put American citizens first.
