Despite the wishes of Republican President Donald Trump and his administration, the dossier on Donald Trump prepared by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele is simply not going away.
Far from it! It continues to attract attention and interest from the media, the Senate, the public, and the FBI/intelligence community.
Trump and his Republican supporters keep making untrue assertions about the dossier that are aimed at trying to take away its legitimacy and distract the world from the truth. And while it seems to be working with his most ardent supporters, it isn’t playing with most of the country.
There is some key information in the linked Washington Post article. It is filled with fact and refutes most of the claims by the President and all his blind admirers that continue to do their best to distract us from the truth.
One of the key quotes in this article:
“’Russian regime has been cultivating, supporting and assisting TRUMP for at least 5 years,’ Steele’s memo began.”
While there is truth that this so called dossier began as opposition research, well before Christopher Steele’s involvement, it began with the Republicans, then once they dropped it, was picked up by Democrats. But by July of 2016 it had become incriminating enough that Steele sought out an FBI contact and shared it with them.
There are additional sources besides the dossier that backup that the Trump campaign not only knew Russia was behind the hacking and interference, they were actively seeking out the material. Trump’s campaign never reported it to intelligence authorities, which is alarming and raises serious questions about the ethics and credibility of those involved.
This article points out that, “In other words, from two different sources, the FBI receives reports of Trump campaign officials being aware that Russia has compromising material on Clinton — just as Russia appears to have attacked Clinton with the release of damaging emails.”
The dossier won’t go away because there is legitimacy to it, it has the attention of the intelligence community, and it corroborates information from other sources.
It still hasn’t been proven that the President himself knew that his campaign was actively working with Russia, but it seems pretty obvious from the information we’ve seen in various publications over the last year, that there were those in his campaign that were not only fully aware, but actively working to leverage Russian. And while it may eventually turn out Trump was not aware, it shows a serious lack in leadership, accountability, and ethics throughout the campaign.
