The last few days have been hard. We knew this was coming back in November of 2016.
But don’t spend too much time in despair. We have the power to change the makeup of Congress in November. We need to stay energized. We need to vote. We need to work hard to get others to vote.
Our democracy is resilient. We survived and reversed course on genocide, slavery, blacks voting, women voting, monopolistic corporations, internment camps for Japanese Americans, worshiping the wealthiest, Jim Crow/segregation, and many other very wrong moves in our history. These were all difficult fights that looked helpless at times. But righteousness prevailed. Progressive liberalism prevailed.
Stay strong. Stay focused. We’ve lost a few battles. But we’ve won some to. What the right wants is for us to get discouraged and surrender. What they want is for us to blame each other and fight within our party. Far left, moderately left, center left, or Hell, even center right, would all be a huge improvement over where we are today. We Democrats are diverse in family backgrounds, skin color, sexual identity, income, and ideals. We won’t all agree on everything. But we can agree on some very important issues. And we can continue to make progress.
