These are sobering statistics. The story they tell is that too many people stayed home and didn’t vote in 2016. The demographics that were most likely to support democrats failed to vote.
We can blame them, if that makes us feel better. But what we really need to do is motivate them. We need candidates and messages they can relate to. We need to convince them that there is a huge difference between republicans that are currently aiding and abetting Trump and democrats, that are looking to improve the country and move forward.
We need to focus on the future and how democrats are going to help people of color and the young. How? We can start with what republicans have done to increase the economic divide. We can focus on the terrible damage the Trump Administration is doing to the environment. We can talk about education and how the system can be improved for those that have less. We must make clear that republicans are doing their best to take away healthcare and make it harder for Americans to get quality affordable health insurance.
