They’re All The Same! It Doesn’t Matter if I Vote or Who I Vote For??? (Part 9)

You might be feeling a little down about the state of politics in the US. The gridlock, political bickering, and overbearing control corporations and the rich have on this country are probably rightfully causing frustration and perhaps despair. But before you decide voting just doesn’t matter, please consider these facts that I’ll present in a series over the coming days:
Separation of Church and State – Democrat versus Republican (Part 9)
The view that this is a Christian nation and we are bound by the bible for our laws is one of the more disturbing aspects of the current conservative wing of the GOP. Despite the rhetoric, there is no “war on Christmas” or Christianity. Perhaps it is their “missionary zeal” that causes them so much trouble in seeing how having everyone subjected to “Christian Laws” simply is NOT freedom of religion. If you believe your religion tells you that abortions are wrong, birth control is wrong, being gay is wrong, eating pork is wrong, using technology on the Sabbath is wrong, etc, that’s fine with us. But don’t expect us to be bound by YOUR religion. If you want to have a display of your religion on private property, that is fine by us. But as soon as you start putting up religious displays of any kind in a public place, we see that as government favoring one religion over others (or no religion as the case may be). And when you start telling others that your religion prohibits things and thus it should be the law of the land, that crosses a line. Democrats largely seem to understand and respect this. Republicans generally want to apply their religious views to the rest of the country. Your vote matters!
