The GOP has been using racist dog whistles and implementing racist policies for years now. It isn’t new. But it is always kind of surprising when a Republican says something racist out loud. It helps confirm what we’ve know for a long time.

Mark Kirk isn’t supporting Donald Trump. I suspect that is more for convenience than beliefs. Especially given his truly racist remarks in his debate with mixed race war hero Tammy Duckworth.

Tammy Duckworth was talking about her family’s proud history of fighting for our country. She has relatives going back to the revolutionary war that fought for America. She is justifiably proud of that. So when she brought it up in the debate, it was pretty shocking when Mark Kirk came back and said, “I had forgotten that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington.”

What an awful thing to say!

Is there no limit to the depths to which the GOP will sink?
