Republicans have long tried to sell a narrative that the reason people in this country are poor is because they are lazy or they are careless with their money. This narrative is false. It is a lie. Just like Reagan’s story of welfare queens.

But not being true didn’t stop Republican Jason Chaffetz from trying to use the falsehood as an explanation of why it wasn’t so bad to kill Obamacare and take healthcare away from millions of Americans. The old, “it’s their own fault” lie.

Repeating these lies really doesn’t absolve Republicans from destroying American’s ability to get affordable health insurance. And it doesn’t give them a reason to destroy America’s social safety net. It is a scam built on lies.
